Stop 9 – H.G. Wolf House
About
Downtown Middleton Historic Walking Trail and Historic Landmark Trail Stop Nine:
Built in 1868 by wagonmaker and wheelwright Henry G. Wolf (1837-1903), this Gabled-Ell frame house narrowly survived the 1900 fire that destroyed much of downtown Middleton. Local tradition holds that Wolf saved the house by ripping out the the carpeting, and laying it on the roof and wetting it down using buckets of water from a yard hand pump. The Wolf house was a designated Century Home because it was in a single-family ownership for more than 100 years. The family made some changes including the second story dormers to the original exterior.
Status: This is currently a privately owned home and is not open to the public.
