The city of Middleton invites the community to stop by the city’s downtown for a little urban picnicking.
The Middleton Community Development Authority (CDA) is launching Pick Your Picnic, a campaign encouraging diners to enjoy a picnic — either from home or carryout — and enjoy the public green spaces in downtown Middleton.
There are dozens of picnic tables set up at Stone Horse Green by Middleton Center, as well as a few placed at the Terrace Avenue Pavilion, and volunteers painted circles on the green by City Hall — and all are open to those who wish to enjoy the outdoors while social distancing.
“We need to support our local businesses as they deal with the pandemic,” said Kathy Olson, Middleton City councilwoman for District 1. “Restaurants have limited indoor seating and rely heavily on takeout and delivery. We hope that by providing additional outdoor seating, residents and visitors will feel welcome to picnic in Middleton’s downtown green spaces.”
Olson brought the idea to the CDA and picnic tables were brought downtown from one of the city’s parks which is under renovation. The Downtown Middleton Business Association then jumped on board to promote a homepage (www.downtownmiddleton.com/restaurants) for diners to view downtown eating options and order carryout. There will also be a QR code on downtown signage to make finding the link even easier.
“I think that Pick Your Picnic will be a great chance for the community to safely gather, dine out and enjoy all of the unique shopping that Downtown Middleton has to offer,” added Jessica Regele, vice president of DMBA and owner of The Regal Find, a gift and art shop downtown.
The State of Wisconsin has also issued a mandatory mask order, so please remember that those 5 years and older must wear a mask unless they fall under one of the exemptions listed here.
