Stop 6 – The Friendly Store

About

Downtown Middleton Historic Walking Trail and Historic Landmark Trail Stop Six:

Originally built in 1856, this general store included a saloon and kitchen. It became a local landmark in 1977 and continued as a furniture store from 1972 to 1986. From 1998 to 2008, it served as a popular Antique Mall. In 2008 the city worked with the owner to preserve the structure and redevelop the building as the home of the National Mustard Museum. Unfortunately, during renovation, the building collapsed. The current building incorporates the historic Milwaukee cream bricks from its original construction. The Mustard Museum continues to the present day, delighting visitors with more than 6,700 types of mustard.

Status: This is currently the location of the National Mustard Museum and the retail store Tradition Children’s Market. Both are open to customers and guests.
