Stop 1 – First High School

About

Downtown Middleton Historic Walking Trail and Historic Landmark Trail Stop One:

This brick building was Middleton’s first high school. It was built in 1878 for a cost of $1,000.  The high school (pictured on the left) was located close to a two-story frame building that housed the lower grades.  The first high school teacher was paid $200 to teach a three-month term.  In 1903, Middleton built a new high school at the corner of Middleton and Franklin Streets. The former high school was then remodeled into a private home and more recently into a childcare facility.

Status: This is currently the site of Little Red Pre-School and is not open to the public.
