Labor Day weekend is the perfect excuse to squeeze in a little more summer fun before the season winds down. Spend the long weekend exploring Middleton’s parks and trails, enjoying time on the water, discovering local food and drinks or simply slowing down and enjoying the last days of summer. Here are a few ways to make the most of the holiday weekend.
Live Lake Life
Marshall Boats
Looking to make the most of the long Labor Day weekend with some lake time? Middleton’s eastern border includes Lake Mendota, making it easy to get out on the water. With several docks, including Marshall Park and Mendota County Park in nearby Westport, plus a free kayak launch at Lake Street Park, accessing the lake with a personal watercraft is easy.
No boat? No problem. Marshall Boats offers numerous rental options, including pontoons, fishing boats, canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. Labor Day marks the end of Marshall Boats’ summer hours, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., seven days a week, so make the most of the final long summer days on the water. Starting Sept. 8, Marshall Boats switches to fall hours (Saturday & Sunday: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
Labor Day also marks the final day the splash pad at Lakeview Park will be open. Enjoy the last day of fun before it closes for the season at 8 p.m.

Explore Pheasant Branch Conservancy & Park Trails
Pheasant Branch Conservancy
Venture through 682 acres of preserved land at Pheasant Branch Conservancy. More than 360 acres are within Middleton city limits and all of it is accessible from various access points. Bird watchers will find plenty to look for at Pheasant Branch Conservancy, especially as early fall migration gets underway. Keep an eye on the skies and trees for migrating birds passing through the area. The conservancy is also home to a large deer population, and Labor Day weekend is a great time to spot bucks sporting their velvet-covered antlers.
