Nature Journaling: Coral
WHEN:
March 21, 2026 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
WHERE:
- This event has passed.
Join the Nature Journal Club to sketch, write and wonder about coral.
There will be some coral “skeletons” from the Field Museum’s education department that you can handle, and a variety of coral pieces bought from local aquarium shops. Coral are pretty mysterious and that’s part of the fun. This event should provide lots of opportunities to get your curiosity on. In addition to look closely at coral, sketching and writing, we can also look at some imagery of living coral colonies and watch some short video clips that may answer some of our questions.
DETAILS:
– MEETING SPOT: We’ll be in a meeting room on the lower level of the Middleton Public Library. Ask a librarian if you can’t find it.
– WHAT TO BRING: A pencil and paper works, or anything fancier.
– WHO SHOULD COME? Anyone–no drawing experience needed. Nature journaling is great for beginners. We also love having children join in (children should be accompanied by an adult.)
– ACCESSIBILITY: Building is accessible and there is accessible parking.
– This event is cohosted by Amy Schleser and the Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance @swibirds

WHAT IS NATURE JOURNALING?
Nature journaling is more than drawing or painting pictures–we also write questions and notes in our sketchbooks to wonder more deeply about nature. We’ll talk briefly about ideas of what to write, such as the writing prompts “I notice… I wonder… It reminds me of…” You’ll also get some nature journaling tips about ways you could document things that you may see at the event location.
