The Sonny Simon VFW Golf Outing is scheduled for Friday, 11 July 2025, with Reveille Shotgun Start at 1230 HRS.

You can expect the usual military-style camaraderie, a fun day of golf, and a quick pace of play, as well as lunch, dinner, and a couple of drinks.

In their 20th year and the Middleton VFW has renamed the Post’s biggest fundraiser after their namesake and World War II Veteran, Sonny Simon. Honor Sonny’s sacrifice, and the sacrifice of his family, by keeping his story alive. Sonny Simon was a Middleton Son, who enlisted at 19 years old and was sent to battle in Europe’s fiercest fighting. He was lost at the age of 20, first declared MIA, then later presumed KIA. His family was thrust into a state of limbo that lasted 80 years. In 2022, new technology enabled his identification, and Sonny was returned home for a Soldier’s final farewell.

Middleton’s William “Sonny” Simon VFW Post 8216 continues to raise funds in his name. Sonny was a Middleton High School Letterman and played four sports–a local athete of some renown. We like to think he would enjoy having a day set aside to hang out with friends and family playing golf.
